Our story

Built by hand. One lawn at a time.

Mendoza Lawn was not started with a business plan or a startup loan. It was built by a man who showed up before sunrise every morning for 35 years and never once did less than his best work.

Where it began

A man who loved the land and chose his family over everything else.

Moises Mendoza Sr. had a genuine passion for biology and the natural world. He understood plants, soil, and seasons the way most people understand a language they grew up speaking. But life called for something different early on. He left school to help provide for his family, and he did what he has always done: he figured it out and he got it done.

He started cutting grass not because it was a lifelong dream, but because it was honest work he could do exceptionally well. And over time, what began as a way to provide for his family became something he was genuinely proud of. He built a reputation one client at a time, one neighborhood at a time, across the west side of Houston.

"No matter what you do in life, do it to your best ability."
— Moises Mendoza Sr., founder
The work itself

Thirty-five years of pre-dawn starts and zero shortcuts.

For over three decades, Moises Sr. has been waking up before the sun rises to work full days in the Houston heat. Not occasionally. Not in the easy seasons. Every week, every year, through the summers that make most people rethink being outside at all.

When equipment broke, he fixed it himself. When rain wiped out a week's schedule, he reorganized and caught up without complaint. When someone gave him the opportunity to work on their property, he treated it as a privilege, not a transaction. That attitude is not something we put in a mission statement. It is just how this business has always operated.

He charges a fair rate, not the lowest rate, because he delivers more than the basics on every single visit. Clients who have been with him for a decade will tell you the same thing: the lawn always looks right when he leaves.

The full circle

He did not know it at the time, but every early morning was quietly building something larger than a client list.

For years, Moises Sr. served families across Houston, including professionals, alumni, and employees connected to Rice University and the broader academic community that surrounds it. He did not think of it as building toward something. He was just doing his job, the right way, for people who appreciated it.

His son Moises Jr. earned a full scholarship to the University of Virginia, went on to earn a Master's degree, and recently graduated with an MBA from Rice University. The same institution whose network his father had quietly served for years.

Today, both Mendozas are part of that network. One built it with his hands. One built it with everything his father's sacrifices made possible.
